Cagliari Cruise Port at the Italian Cruise Day in Savona
Cagliari Cruise Port is participating today in the Italian Cruise Day, the most important event for the Italian cruise sector, held this year at the Palacrociere in Savona. Below is the presentation of the destination provided by the company.

Elegant buildings along narrow streets with an ancient charm, leaning on the gentle hills surrounding the gulf. Green parks, Roman villas, and large panoramic terraces where you can admire flocks of pink flamingos heading toward the sunset on the horizon. And then natural oases, endless salt flats, beaches, and the sea.
The beauty of Cagliari has fascinated visitors for millennia. Located at the heart of the western Mediterranean, the capital of the island of Sardinia has always been sought after as a connecting point between diverse destinations and cultures, gradually becoming an exceptional melting pot and a port of continuous interest, including for cruise tourism.
As both a transit and turnaround port, Cagliari Cruise Port is capable of accommodating even the latest-generation large cruise ships at its three berths on Molo Rinascita. Thanks to its cruise terminal, inaugurated in 2016 and constantly updated and adapted to the sector’s needs to offer the best services to passengers and crew, it is just a short distance from the heart of the city.
Cagliari Cruise Port was among the first to resume operations after the pandemic-related closure, implementing strict health, safety, and prevention protocols, thanks to which the company received the “Safe Travels Stamp” from the World Travel & Tourism Council. In 2020, the port welcomed 14 calls from three different cruise lines, while approximately 50 calls from 13 different companies are expected in 2021. These figures demonstrate the ongoing appreciation by cruise lines for Cagliari Cruise Port and the services offered there, which are constantly being updated. Among the recent improvements is the activation of a wired data network system for ship-to-check-in connections, ensuring excellent connectivity and faster embarkation operations.
The city waterfront has also been renovated: the Port System Authority of the Sea of Sardinia recently completed several redevelopment works in the port area, such as the “Buona Onda,” a shaded structure resembling a wooden wave that enhances the pedestrian path connecting the port to the city center, as well as the new cycling and pedestrian route ending at the newly inaugurated “Parco del Nervi,” a green area on the seafront that represents a unique example of industrial archaeology in the Cagliari port area and serves as a starting point for excursions to discover the Molentargius nature reserve.
In this context of territorial development, the Cagliari-Elmas International Airport must also be mentioned. Located just seven kilometers from the cruise terminal, it boasts increasingly high traffic and constantly growing national and international connections. Combined with the wide availability of accommodation in the metropolitan area and the efficient local infrastructure, this makes Fly & Cruise packages and pre- or post-cruise stays a practical opportunity to enjoy the city and all of southern Sardinia.
Finally, it is worth highlighting the intense activity carried out by the Municipality of Cagliari to support and promote tourism in Cagliari and southern Sardinia. Among these initiatives, the project “Cagliari, Land of Cruises” aims to increase cruise ship calls at the port of the Sardinian capital, also through participation in trade fairs and sector events, such as the Italian Cruise Day, where the company is also present as part of “La Casa dei Porti Crocieristici Italiani,” offering an additional opportunity to promote the destination to the national cruise cluster.
Since the end of 2016, Cagliari Cruise Port has been part of the Global Ports Holding (GPH) network, the largest independent cruise terminal operator in the world. With a consolidated presence in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Asia-Pacific regions, GPH currently manages a network of 21 ports in 13 countries, with continuous and constant growth.
