Sardinia: 600 sites open Monumenti Aperti 2026: a celebration of culture and community.
The “Monumenti Aperti” event returns to showcase Sardinia’s widespread heritage with an even larger and more popular 2026 edition. Sixty municipalities and around 600 sites open to visitors will be involved: a mosaic ranging from “nuraghe” to medieval churches, from museums to places of collective memory.
Cagliari itself is the main gateway for those arriving by sea. Thanks to the Cagliari Cruise Port, visitors can begin their cultural journey as soon as they disembark, just a short walk from the historic centre and some of the key sites featured in the initiative. The port thus becomes not merely a place of transit, but the first step in an immersive experience that unfolds amongst monuments, museums and guided tours.
The programme is mainly concentrated between spring and autumn, featuring special openings and free guided tours. Many of the sites on offer are usually closed to the public or little known, providing an opportunity to discover an authentic Sardinia, far from the beaten track.
Alongside the cultural itineraries, there are supporting activities such as workshops, exhibitions and events dedicated to promoting local traditions, with a particular focus on the younger generations. The aim is to strengthen the bond between the local area, tourists and its residents, fostering greater awareness of the heritage.
Over the years, “Monumenti Aperti” has grown to become a model of sustainable and participatory tourism. In 2026, it aims to consolidate this approach, offering a journey between past and present that invites visitors to rediscover Sardinia as a living space of culture and shared experience.
