MSC Grandiosa, the first cruise ship to restart operations in Italy in 2021, includes Cagliari in its initial itinerary, inaugurating the cruise season in the Sardinian capital.
The new flagship of the MSC Cruises fleet will call tomorrow 29 January on the eastern quay of the Rinascita pier, at the cruise terminal of Cagliari Cruise Port, where it will stay from 11:00 to 19:00. The approximately 600 guests on board, mostly Italians, are taking part in a tour between some of the most beautiful destinations in the Western Mediterranean: Genoa, Rome, Valletta and, finally, Cagliari itself.
The rigorous safety protocols that have allowed the company to resume navigation for first (and precisely with its flagship) during 2020 are always present: among these, we remember the antigenic swabs to which all guests are subjected during check-in operations and, on board, the now well-known "bubble" that protects passengers and crew, made up of social distancing, masks in public areas and smart bracelet to trace the closest contacts.
Disembarkation in Cagliari will be allowed only with excursions organized directly from the ship and will be protected by the application of the strict safety, health and prevention protocols thanks to which Cagliari Cruise Port obtained the "Safe Travels Stamp" from the World Travel & Tourism Council in 2020, confirming its commitment to counter the Covid-19 pandemic.
Given the tourism crisis in this particular historical moment, the restart of the cruise sector - one of the most afflicted by the pandemic worldwide - is a positive sign that gives some relief not only to the terminals, but to the whole cluster involved (tourist guides, museums, shops, rentals, etc), and the inclusion of Cagliari in this inaugural itinerary not only reveals the importance that our port is assuming in the international cruise market, but also shows Cagliari Cruise Port's commitment to the construction, implementation and promotion of the destination.
